Dinah Lee and Trucker: happily ever after?

The discovery that the body in Trisha’s grave is not Trisha effectively ends Trucker and Dinah Lee’s plan to live happily ever after on Loving.

Says Elizabeth Mitchell (Dinah Lee), “The first thing she thinks is, ‘it’s over, I’ve lost him again.’ Dinah Lee loves Trucker in the way where she wants him to be as happy as he possibly can. She’s upset that this is making him unhappy. She can’t pretend things are OK, because they’re not. Her heart is broken. Every day a little something more gets her upset.”

Trucker is torn. He loves Dinah Lee, but feels the need to search for Trisha. Dinah Lee overhears Alex and Trucker talking about Alex searching for Trisha, and she cancels the wedding. Trucker’s response is to take Dinah Lee to a justice of the peace anyway, vowing that they will marry tonight. “He just picks her up and carries her out,” laughs Mitchell.

Unfortunately, Alex and Ava arrive and tell the couple they can’t marry until Trisha is declared legally dead. Mitchell says, “I don’t think Dinah Lee really wanted to do it, anyway. She’s watching Trucker go through all this denial [about the possibility that Trisha is alive]. I don’t think she’s happy about anything, and she wasn’t really looking forward to it.”

Complicating matters is Christopher (Trucker and Trisha’s son), who, this week, asks Dinah Lee if he can call her “Mom.” “She says, ‘Why don’t you just call me Dinah Lee?'” says Mitchell.

Trucker hits the road by week’s end, but he’s bound to be surprised by Dina Lee’s request.

SOD: Small Interview About Loving

Part of “Old Info And News”

January 31, 1995

emlov5.jpgWill Dinah Lee (Elizabeth Mitchell) ever forgive Curtis for causing the plane crash? Mitchell responds: “She almost does, because she’s more angry at herself. I think she blames herself for leading Curtis astray. I think she’s blocking out [what happened], and I think she’ll continue to block.”

Loving | Interview: Runnin’ with the Night

Part of “Old Info And News”

Runnin’ with the Night

LOVING elizabeth mitchell.jpgThough she’s living in the heart of Manhattan now, Loving’s new Dinah, Elizabeth Mitchell, is a Texas gal at heart. Originally from Dallas, the beautiful actress admits that even though she’s lived in the Big Apple for a while, she still often longs for home.

“My whole family’s (in Dallas) and I’m really family-oriented, so as much as I possibly can I go home,” Mitchell admits. Two activities she especially enjoys in Dallas are watching tapes of Loving with her grandmother, and being able to roam the city as she pleases.

“I was walking down the street (the other) night (in Dallas) by myself at like 1:00 in the morning,” she recalls. “I love to walk; I love to run, and who knows what hour I’m going to do it at. I have so much energy! I like to get it out of my system sometimes.”

Mitchell has had to get used to running at more regular hours in New York, for obvious reasons: “You don’t have any illusions of being safe there.” But even though the actress has had to clip her night owl wings – and may long for some foliage now and then – she says New York is still a great place for a creative person to live; it may be a little more frenetic than Dallas, but, “it keeps you up.”

Elizabeth Mitchell’s new job is keeping her up at night. “Yesterday I went and got my scripts for all of next week, and I was so excited I couldn’t sleep,” laughs the Texas-raised actress who assumed the role of Loving’s Dinah Lee Mayberry last August after Jessica Collins quit to pursue other interests. “I kept thinking, “Well I could do this here, or I could do this, or I could try this.’ It was 2 o’clock in the morning and I was still looking through my scripts.” She feel, she says like “Alice in Wonderland.”

SOW Amazing Review About Elizabeth’s Performance On Loving

Part of “Old Info And News”

December 27, 1994

emlov6.jpgLoving: The Aldens’ injuries, illnesses and recoveries dominated the month, but newcomer Elizabeth Mitchell’s performance as Dinah Lee was even more exceptional and enjoyable. We were on the edge of our seats waiting for Dinah Lee to speak in complete sentences, and we weren’t disappointed when D-L triumphed over her stroke and uttered three in a row. Mitchell’s scenes in the institution with Christopher Marcantel’s Curtis were heatbreaking, scary and real. Hmmm… maybe there’s hope for Curtis and Dinah Lee.

SOU Article About Macy’s Herald Square Fashion Show

Part of “Old Info And News”

Familiar Faces in Unexpected Place

Macy’s Herald Square department store in New York City recently played host to some of your favorite daytime stars, who modelled fashionable outfits from the Carole Little design collection.

Not only was the event a whopping success, it afforded fans of All My Children, As The World Turns and Loving the opportunity to meet and greet the women they admire each day – not to mention a certain leading man – and to win autographs and prizes  from this special group of actors.

Elizabeth Mitchell (Dinah Lee, Loving) picks a lucky prize winner out of a bowl (held by Macy’s very own Marcy Elkin). After such a short stay in Corinth thus far, everyone seemed to know who Mitchell was – and cheered her as she modelled down the runway.

Elizabeth Mitchell was a vision in two very exquisite creations. Just for the record, while the performers did not pick their own wardrobes for the evening, every outfit was chosen specifically by Macy’s Carolyn Moss, fashion director of ready-to-wear. Moss offers her expertise for what’s in this holiday season in a more expanded fashion focus starting on page 52.

Soap Opera Update Interview With Elizabeth

Part of “Old Info And News”

December 27, 1994

All The Glitters: OLTL & LOV beauties model holiday fashions.

Soap Opera Update invited One Life To Live‘s Kassie Wesley (Blair) and Stephanie Williams (Shea) to join Loving‘s Elizabeth Mitchell (Dinah Lee) and Laura Sisk (Ally)  to spend a fun-filled afternoon at Macy’s Herald Square, New York department store to model some great fashions that our readers can wear this holiday season.

Dressing the ABC actors was Macy’s Carolyn Moss, fashion director of ready-to-wear. “I chose something that was young-looking because I knew all of these girls were bright and young,” says Moss, who adds, “I assumed that all these girls were slim, so I pulled 4s and 6s, but what threw me was the height. I had thought that soap opera stars were smaller than they are.”

Once the show of their sizes was behind her, Moss explained that the clothing that she selected for these ABC women to choose from stayed within an affordable price rage for mainstream America. “I felt that the audience would relate to these clothes more than something that was so cutting edge. I didn’t choose anything tat was higher than about $350. And the quality is so good.”

According to Moss, “The buzz word for this holiday season and going forth to spring ’95 will be ‘glamour.’ And it’s a return to really looking as best as you can, with luxurious fabrics and makeup. It’s a more pulled-together effect that we’ve seen in the last seven seasons. And the clothes reflect that. They’re in luxurious fabrics of velvet and beading and sating.

Elizabeth Mitchell portrays Dinah Lee on Loving

Carolyn Moss: “Elizabeth is wearing a ball gown with a velvet bodice and a full brocade skirt, and it has a matching shawl. It’s by Jessica McClintock.”

Elizabeth Mitchell on her own sense of style: “I normally dress in long flowy things; long pants – anything that’s big and completely covers my body in every direction, basically. I’m comfortable in a glamorous look, but only if somebody else does it. But if I have to do it, I’m not comfortable, because I know invariably there’s going to be something I completely missed.
For the holidays, I usually borrow my mothers’ clothes. I go home for Christmas, and they have all kinds of parties. My mother has lived a little bit longer than I have, and she has some incredible stuff. She’ll buy one nice thing a year, so that means there’s quite a large selection to choose from. My mother’s six feet tall; I’m 5’9” and a half. Since I’ve been working out, maybe I’ll wear something short this holiday season. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a short skirt.
(This outfit) reminds me of Grace Kelly; that’s a lovely look. I’m usually so simple, so this is something completely different than me.
