It’s Red Sky on Earth thanks to Anna (Morena Baccarin) when “V” returns for its second season on ABC, setting Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) on a journey where she learns the horrifying secret of what the V’s are doing on our planet.

With the world on the brink of a war with the visitors, can anyone stand up to Anna? Possibly Erica, but she is feeling very guilty, according to Elizabeth, having just destroyed a lot of the eggs that Anna laid.

“She just made a massive strike in this war,” Elizabeth says. “She is completely torn and she is, also, in some ways stuck because she is in some ways a double agent. She is working for Anna, she is secretly working for the Fifth Column and she is an FBI agent. She is [also] cranky, which is awesome, and she has this son that she has to protect. He is everything.”

Needless to say, things aren’t going well for Erica and her son Tyler (Logan Huffman), who is in love with Anna’s daughter, Lisa (Laura Vandervoort) and won’t listen to his mother’s warnings about the Vs. So, Erica is afraid that Tyler will abandon her. And she isn’t the only one with family issues. As strange as it might seem, that is a problem for Anna, too.

“Anna’s relationship with her mom is really complicated like anybody’s relationship with their mom,” Morena says. “She basically staged a coup, took over and told everybody her mother died. She saw weakness in her mother. She saw that her mother was going to give up on earth. She felt that was a bad idea. The plan could still be carried out, so she imprisoned her and told everybody she was dead.”

The fun part of meeting Anna’s mother for fans of the original “V” series is that the role of Diana will be reprised by Jane Badler, who will have a recurring role in season two.

One character who may be changing his stripes in season two is Chad (Scott Wolf), who is seeking redemption for being used by Anna, and now wants to fight with the Fifth Column.

“We see Chad now with Father Jack (Joel Gretsch) trying to crack through and really earn Father Jack’s trust,” the former “Party of Five” star says. “It is difficult. He betrayed Father Jack. Father Jack has tested him and so far Chad has done the wrong thing. When the season begins, we see Chad realize that the first step toward redemption is through Father Jack.”

“V” makes its season two premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
