Nielsen VideoCensus: V is number 3

The difference between the two services is that Nielsen VideoCensus delivers just Web results when it comes to videos; while comScore Media Metrix/Omniture data delivers all Web activity: video and text. Nielsen also has a product called NetViews, which measures non-video content.

ABC claims seven of the top 10 shows surveyed by Nielsen VideoCensus: “The Bachelor” is in first place with 1.06 million unique viewers; “V” holds the third position, at 771,000; “Mr. Sunshine” takes fourth place at 711,000; “Modern Family” is in fifth place, with 706,000; “Grey’s Anatomy” is in seventh place, with 585,000 uniques; “General Hospital” holds the eighth spot, at 534,000; and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” settles in ninth place, with 521,000 unique viewers.

Can we say a prayer for V now?

Can we say a prayer for V now? Already hobbled by a repeat of No Ordinary Family as the lead-in, the drama’s second season finale only posted a 1.8/5 in 18-49 and 5.2 million viewers. That’s up 6 percent from last week, but down 14 percent from last year’s finale on May 18.  The writing is on the wall for this series (for more, check out our scorecard here), but it’s always a shame when high-concept projects like this one seem destined for the junk pile. And V’s performance spelled more bad news for Detroit 1-8-7

Further, “V” matched its highest rating in Men 18-49 (2.0/6) since mid-January – since 1/18/11.
• The ABC drama ranked No. 1 in the 9 o’clock hour in Men 18-49 (tie), standing as the No. 2 TV show on Tuesday (tie).

Two of ABC’s Tuesday “bubble” shows had a little, qualified something to smile about this week, as both V and Detroit 1-8-7 registered increases (albeit opposite largely repeaty competition). V wrapped up its shortened second season with an audience of 5.3 million total viewers and a 1.8 rating in the coveted 18-49 demo — up 6 percent week-to-week in both measures.

ABC’s “V“ matched its 2nd-best number of the season in Adults 18-34 (1.3/4), while hitting a season high in Women 18-34 (1.4/4). In addition, the show built on its “No Ordinary Family” lead-in by best-ever margins on both Nielsen measures.
• Opposite stiff time period competition from a special Tuesday airing of Fox’s “American Idol,” CBS’ top?rated “NCIS: Los Angeles” and the second hour of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser: Couples,” “V” gained 13% in viewers (4.7 million to 5.3 million) and 12% in Adults 18-49 (1.7/5 to 1.9/5) from its first half?hour to its second half hour.
