V’s Elizabeth Mitchell Would Like Erica to Win. For Once!

IGN talks to the global Fifth Column leader about upcoming deaths, hooking up with Hobbes and working with O.G. V alum Marc Singer
US, March 14, 2011 March 14, 2011 March 14, 2011

On Tuesday, March 15th, it all comes to a head on ABC as V is set to thrill us with an explosive Season 2 finale that promises alien sex, hostage taking, death and destruction. With “Mother’s Day” fast approaching, we here at IGN spoke with series star Elizabeth Mitchell, who plays FBI Agent/Global Resistance Leader Erica Evans, about losing characters from the show, hooking up with Hobbes and working with O.G. V alum Marc Singer!

IGN TV: What can we expect from Erica Evans in the finale?

Elizabeth Mitchell: What can we expect from Erica? Well, I’m actually enjoying the trajectory that Erica’s on. Just continuing to press forward. I always have this analogy of people that I like and it’s, “If they can’t go through the door then they find a window and if they can’t through the window they bust through the wall. And I feel like she’s doing that with Anna right now. I feel like Erica’s doing everything she possibly can to win. And that’s a fun thing for me to play and hopefully a fun thing for people to watch.

Elizabeth Talks About The V Season Finale

Very controversial among the fandom lately has been the romance between Erica and Hobbes. How do you think Erica will respond once she finds out what Hobbes had to do with Joe’s death?

ELIZABETH MITCHELL: Oh! Oh my gosh! She’d kill him! That, to me, is what makes it so delicious. But then again, I’m kind of an odd person.
Obviously, you’re sitting there watching the screen and you’re like “Don’t do it! Okay he’s really cute, but don’t do it! He’s a bad guy!” So no. Not good. I mean, he’s betrayed her every which way. But, you know, she’s in a massive amount of pain, so I feel like something was going to break, and I guess that was it.

Q: What is Erica’s relationship currently like with Jack at this point?

A: She’s kind of estranged from Jack. But yet, to me, what was so tragic about that is that she was calling him to make up. She was calling him to try to be human again, and to have him talk to her and to have him be her conscience again. And then he didn’t pick up the phone. So, it’s so fascinating to me, that the little angel doesn’t answer, but the Devil just crashes right in. Obviously it’s not that black and white, given that Hobbes is not pure evil, but it is interesting.

Q: Is there a moment that you’re still waiting for with Erica that hasn’t happened yet?

A: Yeah, I want for her to win. [laughs] And I’m also waiting — I’ve always loved Father Jack, and I love Hobbes, and I love how she is with both of them, but I do think there’s a whole story with Father Jack that we haven’t explored yet. I love that. He’s such a good man. He’s such a good person. And I feel like to lose him is a sad thing – to have her not be friends with him, to have him not be her touchstone, is hard.

Expect a cliffhanger in V season finale | Review

And yet, for all its frenetic energy and mock seriousness, V is one of TV’s most arch, funniest thrillers. That’s why it’s so addictive. A terrific cast ensemble -Elizabeth Mitchell, Joel Gretsch, Scott Wolf, and many others -is just one reason why V is easy to watch, and easy to like.

Oh, you didn’t really think everyone would be safe, right? Of course you didn’t. But what you won’t anticipate is how big these three (incredibly bloody!) main character deaths are as ABC’s sci-fi series closes its second season next week.

“I think that the people who die are going to affect everyone in different ways,” Elizabeth Mitchell tells EW. “The people they chose, they chose for a reason because they will mean something. I think it’s going to create an entirely new dynamic for everybody. Nobody is going to be unscathed.” (And you can bet that the terrifying Female-Visitor Lizard-Tail figures prominently in at least one of these death scenes.)

‘V’ Series: Is Season 3 happening? Scott Wolf says hopes are high

When ABC opted to give “V” a short season this year, execs promised us that each episode would be packed with quality action — and they were right. With only one episode left in Season 2, we’ve all got one question on our minds: Will there be a Season 3?

Series star Scott Wolf stopped by KTLA Studios and he says that the team behind the show believes chances are very good. “Ultimately there are questions that will be answered in the finale, but it is not serving as a series end,” he says. “Our story is not complete. We are anticipating a third season of the show.”

Unfortunately, Wolf confirms that even with a potential Season 3, we won’t be seeing one of our favorite characters next year. “There are huge goings-on, huge reversals of fortune for most of the main characters, and like i said, at least one main character who you have come to know and potentially love will not survive our season finale.” Read more…
