Lost Spoiler From Ausiello: New Flashback Episode For Juliet

Part of “Old Info And News”

Answer: If you were as riveted by Juliet’s backstory as I was, then you’ll be psyched to hear that she’ll get a second flashback in April that will pick up exactly where last week’s left off. Not sure if that means Calamity Jane’s coming back, but a boy can dream.

Don’t worry: Elaboration is forthcoming. We’re nestled in the lush foothills of Oahu’s north shore, where Lost is shooting the 13th episode of its controversial third season. If you recall the opener in October, you’ll recognize this idyllic village setting, with its cookie-cutter cabins and garden gazebo, as hostile territory. “Welcome to Othersville,” says Michael Emerson, a.k.a. Ben, the creepy-cunning leader of Mystery Island’s devious denizens, the Others. “Everything’s relaxed. The stakes are low. And naturally, all of this is a big setup for…something.” The spoiler cops won’t allow us to reveal that something, let alone expand upon such intriguing sights as Others-recruited fertility doc Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) pushing Ben in a wheelchair, or Jack (Fox) cheerfully lobbing a football to his sworn enemy Mr. Friendly (M.C. Gainey). “Everyone should be wondering what the hell is going on,” explains Fox during a break. “Has Jack been converted by the Others? Drugged? Is he pretending? All sorts of scenarios could be happening here.” (At that moment, Evangeline Lilly — a.k.a. Kate — buzzes by and interjects: “Don’t believe a word he says. He’s a liar!”)

The role of Juliet lets Elizabeth Mitchell balance her TV career with her family life
By Katherine Nichols

Elizabeth Mitchell, who plays Juliet on Lost, phones at the appointed time to apologize. She will have to call back a few minutes later because her 17-month-old son, C.J., is having “a problem.”
As promised, she makes sure he’s OK and calls back five minutes later to chat jovially about her apprehension. It’s Wednesday night, after all, a couple of hours before the seventh episode of “Lost” will air.

Fellow cast members had invited Mitchell to join them for a gathering to watch the premiere, of sorts (it’s the first episode after a long broadcast break). But she politely declined in favor of staying home with her husband and son, and preparing for an early morning start on the set.

“Besides, I’m a little nervous,” she said. “They’re going to be footloose and fancy-free, and it’s my episode!”

Lost | Ratings

Part of “Old Info And News”

“Lost was welcomed back by an audience of 14.68 million, a drop of 2.4 mil from its last Wednesdays-at-9 episode, but obviously a marked improvement over (take your pick) Invasion (8.6 mil), Primetime: Medical Mysteries (six mil) and The Nine (4.1 mil). Still, CSI: NY (15.78 million, up 2.4 mil) placed first in the 10 o’clock hour. ADDENDUM: Mind you, Lost’s lead-in was its own recap show, which with 9.06 million viewers gave it a better shove-off than the According to Jim-In Case of Emergency 9 pm combo will.”
