Elizabeth Mitchell Talks V, Her Return to Lost and Sawyer’s Happiness

Instead of bouncing around the space-time continuum and nestling up to the very hot and steamy Josh Holloway, this fall, Elizabeth Mitchell is fighting reptilian aliens on the remake of the ’80s miniseries V.

However, that doesn’t mean Juliet doesn’t make at least an appearance in the sixth and final season of the ABC hit series Lost. In fact, she hopes Juliet finds happiness in the end, but that happiness may not necessarily be with Sawyer. Ruh-roh.

Read on for our exclusive one-on-one with Elizabeth, where she dishes about her new show V and possible appearances on Lost

When I read the pilot script, I absolutely called that the part of Erica Evans was written for you, despite the reports that you were just a guest star on the series.
They actually said that it kind of was, but they didn’t think I was going to be able to do it. I love the idea that it was so different from Juliet. We have someone who’s got a lot more hope, a lot more excitement.

Elizabeth Mitchell’s Returning To ‘Lost’ Because of You, the Fans

VOTE at this poll: Elizabeth Mitchell is returning to Lost, but for how long should it be?

Elizabeth Mitchell’s Returning To ‘Lost’ Because of You, the Fans (And Then Talks About ‘V’)

And she’s returned to Lost because of the fans, she thinks.

Elizabeth Mitchell’s one of those names tossed into the pot that says “former Lost stars that will appear in the final season”, and while the other names are still a slight secret, the one we know as Juliet has confirmed that she’s doing at least two more episodes–and thanks the fans for it.

“It was looking [like nothing will happen to my character] and then I don’t know what happens now,” she told Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello. “I do really think [the producers] listened to the fans, so thank you!”

Oh, and something else: “I think that there will be a little more because of that.” So maybe more than the long-hinted everything-will-be-reverted storyline for the final season, I guess?

But she was there to talk about her other ABC series, V, the refresh of the 1980s sci-fi series. And, since it’s a remake, someone’s bound to scoff–and she isn’t worried. “I think about Battlestar Galactica, [and] I kinda felt that you can make a good remake,” she said. “I didn’t feel like [V] was sacrilege but at the same time, you love what you love. You loved the old one, and it’s possible [that] we’ll see how people feel about this one.”

“You sit down with the script, and it was so good,” her co-star Scott Wolf said. “For some people, screwing [this] up would be sacrilege.”

“We’re paying homage to it,” fellow co-star Morena Baccarin said.

And they are thrilled to have Mitchell on board–although it meant questions about her future on Lost. “Part of the world of working on TV is, you sort of know the tricks, so you know what’s going to happen,” Baccarin said. “But we’re really thrilled [to have her.]”

So I guess, good things, then? Surely. Or, it should.

Comic-Con 2009: Josh Holloway on Lost

On Juliet coming back or not coming back in the sixth season:

Note: It was revealed in the “Lost” panel Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) would be returning in the sixth season for a few episodes, but above Holloway referred to Sawyer as having lost Juliet.

Yeah, I don’t know, ask those crazy people (creators Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof), what are they talking about now? No idea. Maybe she’ll be this beautiful angel that appears and they can have this erotic—maybe (laughs). I don’t know how they’re going to do that, but it will be brilliant. They’re smart, those guys, so they’ll figure it out.

On who Sawyer should be with: Kate or Juliet:

Well I married someone more like Kate, so I guess they’d more volatile than everything being rosy and good like it was with Juliet and I. Both are valid and actually, in my life, I like both, but yeah, maybe as I get older I’ll chill out like he was with Juliet (laughs).

Spoilers on Juliet and Sawyer

Simon in Boston: Since Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse said Juliet was going to be on Lost this season, do you know when she’ll return?
“Pretty immediately, and then I’m not sure after that,” Elizabeth Mitchell tells us exclusively. “I think it will be satisfactory.” Stay tuned for more from Elizabeth in the coming days.

Elizabeth Mitchell: Fans responsible for bringing Juliet back to ‘Lost’

elizabeth mitchell

Were it not for the huge fan outcry in the wake of Juliet’s apparent demise on Lost, the beloved heroine would probably not be returning next season. At least that’s what Elizabeth Mitchell believes, as you can see in the following video interview from Comic-Con. Mitchell, accompanied by her newest co-stars from ABC’s V, also reveals what it was like joining V while still working on Lost, and why she thinks the reboot will be more Battlestar Galactica than, say, Knight Rider. Watch the complete interview after the jump. And to see more of my Comic-Con videos, and other interviews and panels, head over to our Con hub.

There is a nice comment on EW:

Leia: “I briefly met Liz Mitchell while I was rooming with her sister in college, and I have to say, success couldn’t happen to a nicer person! I’m happy to see she has so much fan support.”

PS: Darlton, if you don’t bring her back alive, it’s useless, don’t even bother. We don’t need a ghost!

Comment about Juliet in season 6

My favorite fan question of the panel was from the dude in the Dharma suit who said that he cried like a girl when Juliet died. I feel your pain, man. I cried too. He asked if Juliet was okay, and if not…can they make her okay? Imagine my joy from Darlton’s response:

“This returns to the idea of whether or not her detonating the bomb had the desired effect. And if it did, my guess would be that she’s okay. Elizabeth Mitchell will be on Lost in the final season.”

After Darlton thanked the fans for their many years of support, they showed a touching tribute (In Memoriam) of the characters who have died on Lost. Now, given that they had just revealed that we’d be seeing both Faraday and Juliet in S6…I am quite intrigued that Faraday was among those in the video but Juliet was not.

Comic Con | TV Guide Interview

Josh was most excited to hear the news that Elizabeth Mitchell would be back in some way.
“Juliet coming back is exciting,” he says. But if Juliet returns only as a corpse, Josh says it would have a horrible effect on Sawyer. “It would destroy him. It would bring him right back to where he started. I love that idea of ripping off all his growth and getting back to Sawyer, the salty dog. But I imagine then he’ll have to get back to wanting to live again.”.
Elizabeth Mitchell has been under a gag order not to speak ever since Lost’s season finale aired in May. But she finally broke her silence with me. “What happened at the very end of the season is they told me that the character of Juliet had reached a natural conclusion,” says Liz. “It was very sudden, but I said ‘Okay,’ thinking that was the end of it. People knew I was available and I got a bunch of scripts. I fell in love with V and said I would do it. It was really crazy because I wasn’t planning on jumping back into another series. And then Lost’s La Fleur episode aired and the fan response was really good, so then Lost called again, and that’s what I can’t talk about. It’s possible Juliet’s just dead, but I think it’s going to be a little bit more than that. I hope that when she comes back she can give Sawyer a really good reason for going on. What I really want is to have a big old fight with Ben, but that will probably never happen. But we will definitely see her again. They haven’t really told me how many episodes I’ll be doing but ABC said they’d work it out. They did when I was shooting the V pilot. I literally did four days of V, four days of Lost, four days of V.”
