Lost | TV Guide Review: Elizabeth Mitchell has shone this season

Part of “Old Info And News”

emmy-awardQuestion: I know it’s a little early for Emmy talk, but I was so horrified by Lost‘s snub last year that I can’t stop thinking about it. What do you think Lost‘s chances are at this year’s Emmys? I think Elizabeth Mitchell, Henry Ian Cusick and Michael Emerson all have a good chance, as well as the show in the drama category. Also, I heard last year’s snub was due to the producers’ submitting episodes poorer in quality, such as “Man of Science, Man of Faith,” to the nomination panel. I hope the Emmy voters correct last year’s grievous wrongdoing and nominate Lost this year. What do you think?
Answer: I think I admire your faith in the show and in Emmy voters. Frankly, I’d be shocked if the Emmys reverse course to show much if any love toward a show whose reputation took several hits this year: in the ratings and in media coverage over that ill-conceived opening “pod” of episodes. I agree that Elizabeth Mitchell in particular has shone this season, but given the richness and variety of TV drama these days, I can’t help but think Lost‘s breakthrough freshman season (when it won best drama) is going to be its sole trip to the big party. I’d love to be wrong, but I think (speaking in island terms) that ship may have sailed for good.

season 3 photoshoot puple tshirt elizabeth mitchell (3).jpgLost Redux: Scoop on the Latest Ep—and Five Q’s with Big, Bad Ben

OMG, right? Was that not the best ep so far this season? I loved it all, but especially Alex with her slingshot and her thang for Karl, Juliet having the bad fortune to get exactly what she wished for, and Jack wielding his surgeon mojo like the dangerous weapon that it is!

I also just met up with big baddie Ben (Michael Emerson), who gave me lots of juicy teases. But first we must discuss last night’s episode!

Lost 3×07 | US Magazine Review

Part of “Old Info And News”

January 31

After a three-month break, the captivating drama returns with a breathless episode
4 stars

The spooky island drama is back – and in a new (post-American Idol) time slot. Captive surgeon Jack (Matthew Fox) grapples with saving devious Others leader Ben (Michael Emerson), while Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) attempt to make it back to their island. Keeping a tense eye on all the developments? The inscrutable Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell), whose past is revealed (she was a brilliant but trouble medical researcher in Miami). Mark this as a classic instalment. With its riveting whir of whizzing bullets, mordant wit and heartwrenching performances, Lost now surprises The Sopranos as TV’s most visceral and expertly crafted drama. But be warned: Viewers longing for the return of some favorite characters (and, yes major answers) will have to be a bit more patient. Meanwhile, enjoy.

Lost | Latest From Kristin: 3×07 Review And Spoiler

Part of “Old Info And News”

season 3 photoshoot puple tshirt elizabeth mitchell (3).jpgFrom Jefferson: Lost!
I’ve seen the first episode coming back. It is good. And when I say it is good, that is the understatement of the year. It is most definitely my favorite episode so far this season, and officially cements Elizabeth Mitchell as a rock-solid Lostie who shall not be done away with (Damon, don’t you dare think of it). But the best part? The flashback includes an evil doctor by the name of Burke! Sorry, I just found that funny. Especially because Lost’s Dr. Burke also realizes that words uttered in the heat of the moment can have serious repercussions. (I’ll tell you more about the ep in the spoiler section below.)

From Tracey: New Lost ep—spill! I want to know everything.
No. You don’t. Trust me! Like I said, it really is the best episode of the season so far, and you’ll want to watch this one spoiler-free, my friend. Still, I will gently tease a few happenings to wet your whistle. Here’s what I can tell you:

Lost 3×07 | EW’s Review And Spoilers

Part of “Old Info And News”

Review (sort of) and some spoilers about Lost 3×07:

season 3 photoshoot puple tshirt elizabeth mitchell (3).jpg‘Lost’ (S3): Finding the plot in “Not in Portland”
The Doc tempts wayward viewers with four juicy teasers about the brand-new episode, ”Not in Portland.”

Yes. And Yes.

For the past week, dozens of you have sent me e-mails asking the same two urgent questions. To paraphrase, those questions go something like this:

”I’ve heard that ABC has been sending out screeners of the next episode of Lost, ‘Not In Portland.’ Did you get one? And have you seen it?!”

And my answers are Yes. And Yes.

Actually, it’s ”HELL yes!”

I’ve watched ”Not In Portland” THREE TIMES now. Usually in cases where I’ve been lucky enough to get this kind of sneak peek, I would devote this space a review and a series of cryptic teases. For a number of reasons, I’m going to refrain from the review. Passing critical judgments on TV shows is technically not my department here at EW. That said, let the fact that I’ve watched the episode three times in less than 24 hours tell you something.

Dark Ufo Info About Lost 3×07

Part of “Old Info And News”

season 3 photoshoot puple tshirt elizabeth mitchell.jpgOn Wednesday night, ABC delivered screeners of the return episode of Lost, which is to air on Feb. 7, to TV critics here in Pasadena. The disc came in an unmarked brown envelope …

In an attached cover letter, the network says: “We kindly ask that you use your discretion in reviewing this show by not revealing any plot details that contain spoilers,” and of course I’ll respect that.
Within those confines, here’s a glimpse at the next Lost hour:

Lost | Ask Ausiello With Damon And Carlton

Part of “Old Info And News”

season 3 photoshoot puple tshirt elizabeth mitchell (3).jpgPersonally, I’d be happy if the show just featured Matthew Fox, Michael Emerson and Elizabeth Mitchell every week.
Damon: We’re going to spin them off. It’s going to be called “Ben & Friends.”

OK. Another reader, Baude, wants to know when we’re going to find out what happened to those kids who were abducted.
Damon: I think you’ll begin to get a real sense of the answer to that question in about the second episode back after the break — a very real sense.

Does it tie in at all to the fact that Juliet’s a fertility doctor?
Damon: I think that’s a reasonable connection.

Ausiello Spoilers | Great Comment About Elizabeth

Part of “Old Info And News”

season 3 photoshoot puple tshirt elizabeth mitchell (3).jpgQuestion: What can you tell us about where the Others are living? And where are Kate, Jack and Sawyer being held captive? I s it predictable? Astounding? Give us something, please!— Mike B.

Ausiello: First off, nothing about the episode is predictable, particularly where the Others are concerned. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say your perception of the creepy outcasts will be completely shattered within the first five minutes. I should also point out that one of the show’s three newbies is featured very prominently tonight, and let’s just say this rookie made an extremely favorable impression on me. (Best. Casting. Decision. Ever.) And as I mentioned in AR, a grilled cheese sandwich also gets a good deal of airtime, as does a very familiar-looking dude named Ben. Oh, and one more thing: we get introduced to the island’s first openly gay character. At least I’m 95 percent sure we do. Keep your ears attuned (and turn your gaydar on) right around the time Kate steps foot in the shower. That’s when the telltale clue gets dropped.
