It’s not hard to get lost in Lost. The show, which premiered in 2004 on ABC, has succeeded in captivating audiences with its multitude of characters and their respective storylines. Judging from the write-in entries in our 2008 Hott List, it is obvious that Venus Zine readers can’t get enough of the complicated prime-time drama.

Elizabeth Mitchell portrays Dr. Juliet Burke, a fertility doctor who entered the show in the beginning of the third season as a member of the “Others,” a group of elusive people who inhabited the island long before the crash of Flight 815. Collectively considered to be the 98th greatest villain of all time by Wizard Magazine, the “Others” serve as the series’ oft-mysterious antagonists. Mitchell’s role, however, has transcended that boundary and is now one of the show’s primary characters.

Venus Zine talked to Mitchell about the show’s unique plotlines, its enthusiastic fans, and — of course — what she would bring to a deserted island.

Lost | Set Report From An Extra

Part of “Old Info And News”

For those of you who didn’t know, I got to be an extra for LOST on Monday and Tuesday. I was officially cast as “Mom on Swing.” This role required me push an 8 year old girl on a swing then stand by a fence I had to sign a confidentiality paper, so I don’t give away the plot, so that’s all I’ll say. The girl that played my daughter was absolutely adorable. I attempted to teach her how to juggle when we were waiting to be filmed. She made me take a picture with her because she said I was going to be famous and she wanted to make sure she got a picture before it would be too difficult to. I hope that was a sign. I was working til about 4 AM and it was nice and rainy and freezing.
On Tuesday, I was a “Dharmite”, as you can see in this picture. I looked like a girl scout. The director even walked over and told me that it looked like I should be selling cookies. While I was waiting to be called to set, I was sitting at a picnic table with a few other background actors. Sawyer had a break, so he walked over to the picnic table and picked up a guitar and started singing the blues to me. Okay…he was probably singing to all of us, but he kept looking at me. It was crazy.
Speaking of being so close to the actors, I had hair and makeup sitting between the girl who plays Juliet (Elizabeth Marshall) and the asian guy (Daniel Dae Kim).

Lost Gets a Premiere Date!

Part of “Old Info And News”

castlostseason4elizabethmitchell.jpgOur prayers have been answered! ABC has just confirmed to me that Lost has received an official premiere date for season five, and even better, it’s a smidgen earlier than expected.

On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Lost returns with a three-hour (you heard me, three-hour!) premiere. “Because You Left” and “The Lie” will air back-to-back, following a recap of the first four seasons (for the very few people who aren’t already addicted and/or obsessed).

So what does this mean for ABC’s Wednesday-night lineup?

After the Lost extravaganza premiere, the series will continue on Wednesday nights at 9. Reps at ABC have told me that a decision on new time slots for Private Practice and possibly Pushing Daisies (pleeease?) will be announced next week.

Episodes three through six are as follows: “Jughead,” “The Little Prince,” “The Place Is Death” and “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.”

This news comes on the heels of the casting scoop from earlier today about the part of a Lost man’s lover.

By chance, anyone excited to find out where the Island went?

E!

Starbullettin: Dream Benefit For ‘Lost’ Fans

Part of “Old Info And News”

For a veteran stage actor accustomed to large audiences, this was nothing. Many of the 150 or so Honolulu Theatre for Youth patrons attending the annual gala fundraiser were dressed in costumes, or adorned with wings and sparkles, thus projecting a decidedly nonjudgmental air. Even so, “Lost” star Michael Emerson was nervous. “It doesn’t matter that it’s a small group thrilled to see you do anything,” he said. “It might as well be Broadway.”

The audience probably felt transported to (Off) Broadway—a thrilling, intimate, casual stage performance laced with their favorite celebs—when Emerson and his “Lost” colleagues performed several scenes from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Koolau Golf Club Oct. 25.
