UPDATE: In Memory of LOST Characters

Panel: PART 1 - PART 2PART 3PART 4
Spots: Hurley’s Mr CluscksOceanic AirlineKate onAmericas Most Wanted
Nestor Carbonel’s interview
Totaly LOST

In Part 3 there is the question about Juliet.

Male fan: I just want you to know that I cried like a sissy when Juliet fell and if there is any guy in here that would tell you differently, they’re lying to you, I promise! So I need to know if she is ok. And if she is not, can you make her ok?
Damon: Well again, I think this all returns to the idea of whether or not her detonating the bomb had the desired effect. I mean if it did, my guess is that she will be ok and if it didn’t work then probably prognosis is not so great, considering the fall. But I think we can say here that Elizabeth Mitchell will be in LOST in the final season.
Carlton: Yes!

UPDATE 3:

[...]They also seemed to confirm that Elizabeth Mitchell (whose character, Juliet, was NOT in an in memoriam segment screened at panel’s end) and Jeremy Davies would put in appearances in the final season and hinted that several others who haven’t been around for a while would turn up as well. UPDATE 2:

Complete Recap from Digital Spy

Saturday, July 25 2009, 18:36 BST

By Neil Wilkes, Editor

10.34am: I’m sitting in Hall H, the largest room at the San Diego Convention Center, patiently waiting for the most anticipated panel of Comic-Con 2009: Lost.

10.38am: People have been queueing overnight to get in here and when I arrived a short while ago, the queue was among the biggest I’ve ever seen. A combination of being press and having an adorably charming British accent helped me avoid all that unpleasant waiting.

10.39am: Upon arrival we were given white posters bearing the Lost logo (in black) and the text “The final season, 2010″.

10.41am: We were also given leaflets advertising something called the “Lost University”. The leaflet says that enrollment to LJ “starts soon!” and asks readers: “Are you up to the challenge?” It mentions a URL, lostuniversity.org and adds: “Prepare now for the final season.”

10.54am: Just blagged use of a socket in the technical area to give more juice for my laptop (the British charm comes out again). Around five minutes to fo now.

10.55am: There appear to be eight seats up on stage. We know for definite that exec producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof will occupy two of them.

10.56am: A press officer from Sky1 has just tweeted: “In the #Lost panel green room.. In complete heaven but can’t say why just yet..” Who are the guest stars, I wonder? Dominic Monaghan perhaps?

10.58am: People are still streaming in from the back of the hall but we must surely be close to full capacity by now. 2 minutes…

11.01am: A slow hand clap has started in the Hall… lots of whooping and cheers.

11.02am: My laptop informs me that it has one hour and two minutes of juice left. If I suddenly go quiet right before the big finale, you’ll know why. Damn you Dell, etc.

11.04am: Eddie, the director of programming at Comic-Con, takes to the stage and welcomes everyone to the Hall before warning everyone not to film the footage being shown today and sticking it up on YouTube. Yadda yadda, bring on the Lost.

11.06am: Huge cheers as the lights dim and ‘Lost’ appears on the screen.

11.07am: A video advert for Lost University appears on screen. “We are the cutting edge of tomorrow,” says the voiceover, advising viewers to log on to the website.

11.09am: Another video now, which begins with a message saying that this is an excerpt from a short-lived TV series from the 1980s that might be of interest to Lost fans. “They look like us, they talk like us, they walk among us yet they are not us,” says the voiceover. The Dharma logo appears. The voiceover describes Dharma as a “clandestine organisation” and questions its purpose. “Why do they exist and what are they here for?”

11.10am: Another video featuring clips from the season five finale.

11.11am: Damon and Carlton come on stage to the sound of Europe’s ‘The Final Countdown’. The pair begin by saying how greatful they are for everything Comic-Con has done for Lost in the last few years.

11.13am: A series of Lost parody clips (the kind you might find on YouTube) play out on the screen.

11.16am: Darlton say they have the final scene of Lost written down and with them. Carlton pulls his page from his sock. They put the pages in a locked box and send it off to an undisclosed location. Damon says that on the night of the finale, they will go on Jimmy Kimmel Live and read the script, to prove they’re not making things up as they go along.

11.19am: Question time: “What are the similarities to season one in season six?” Damon says: “On the surface of it, there’s a good chance you’ll be seeing many of the characters you haven’t seen [for a while]. It’s really our goal for you to watch the final season of the show and not know what we’re going to do next.”

11.21am: Question now from someone who appears to be a celebrity, although I’m not sure who. He says he’s devoted the last six months of his life to creating Lost-inspired art. It’s a painting of the boys posing alongside a polar bear.

11.23am: A woman now who says she is a Faraday fangirl and wonders if he’ll be happily married with kids next season. “Faraday is kinda dead, so if you like zombie weddings, then maybe,” says Carlton. He then confirms: “Faraday will be on the show though, yes.”

11.25am: A man asks if there will be any pre-2004 flashbacks in the final season. Carlton says: “We’re doing something different in season six. The time travel season is over, the flashforward season is over, but season six is something different.”

11.27am: The winning entrant of a competition to create a Lost opening sequence is played, then followed by a couple messages from “sponsors”.

11.28am: … the first of which is an advert for Oceanic. It claims: “Oceanic Airlines, in the air since 1979. Thirty years with a perfect safety record.”

11.29am: Next is an advert for Mr. Cluck’s chicken shack, starring Hurley! Then an America’s Most Wanted segment asking viewers to help find a dangerous killer – Kate Austen.

11.32am: Next question comes from Jorge Garcia (Hurley). He says that he hopes that the Losties haven’t succeeded in changing events of the past because that would mean the last five seasons have been pointless. “Trust us,” say Darlton. Jorge replies: “Yeah but the last time I trusted you guys, you said Nikki and Paolo were going to be awesome!”

11.34am: Michael Emerson (Linus) appears next to Jorge and starts mocking him and his acting abilities. “Yall wanna know the real reason Michael’s upset?” Jorge asks the audience. “Michael here originally wanted to play Hurley, but the part was already cast.”

11.36am: Michael retorts: “I think that everyone understands that I was originally cast in a guest spot but then became a series regular. A part that was written especially for me.”

11.37am: A video of Michael Emerson auditioning for the part of Hurley is shown. He’s dressed in an oversized black T-shirt and wearing a black bandana. Much amusement as he recreates some classic Hur
ley scenes.

11.39am: Michael and Jorge have now joined Darlton up on stage. A woman from the audience asks about a Richard Alpert flashback and if it will coincide with arrival of Black Rock. “You will be seeing a lot of Richard and I think we would be completely remiss if we didn’t give you Richard’s flashback before the end,” says Carlton. Damon adds that Alpert’s flashback will be “very involved”.

11.40am: A guy asks about the fate of Juliet. Damon says: “Elizabeth Mitchell will be in Lost in the final season.”

11.44am: Footage of Nestor Carbonelli (Richard Alpert) supposedly backstage, sitting in front of a makeup mirror and applying mascara, before complaining then attacking the camera. On queue, Nestor comes out on stage.

11.46am: “What, how or who made the food drop in season two?” asks someone. “That could be something we address in the final season,” says Damon.

11.48am: A man asks how big a part Dharma will play this year. “Not as big a role,” says Carlton. “We are kind of moving on to some other stuff this year.” Damon adds that more will be revealed about Dharma on the DVD.

11.50am: Someone asks if Jacob has ever appeared to any other Losties before the season five finale, then demands a yes or no answer. “No,” is the answer.

11.52am: Damon says there is one more special guest then a film rolls. It’s clips of Sawyer (Josh Holloway)! Much whooping from the audience.

11.53am: Josh joins the gang on stage. Darlton ask if there are any questions, and Josh pipes up. He then tazers Damon, before taking the key to the locked box from around his neck.

11.54am: Josh then coerces Carlton into unlocking the box. He then takes the script. “Alright yall, finally,” he tells the audience then pauses.

11.55am: “Oh my god, you don’t know how to read, do you?” asks Michael then takes the script from Josh, who protests: “I left my glasses on the island!”

11.56am: Michael reads a scene between Sylar and Parkman at a collapsed circus tent. “What the fuck is this?!?” says Michael. Much laughter.

11.58am: Clip reel of the fallen Losties. In order: Gary Troup, Captain Seth Norris, Dr. Leslie Atrz, Neil “Frogurt”, Roger Linus, Tom Friendly, Ethan Rom, Ana Lucia Cortez, Elizabeth “Libby” Smith, Nikki & Paolo, Karl Martin, Danielle Rousseau, Alex Rousseau, Shannon Rutherford, Boone Carlyle, Charlotte Lewis, Mr. Eko, Michael Dawson, Daniel Faraday, Charlie Pace.

12.01pm: Very extended clips of Charlie’s time on Lost. Applause and cheering. It ends with the caption: “You are Lost, but not forgotten.”

12.03pm: Clip ends, Dominic appears on stage to hysterical cheering. “That’s all folks,” say Darlton and it’s a wrap. What do you think this means? Is Charlie coming back to Lost? Add your comments to this entry below! I’ll hopefully be back in a few hours with the Heroes panel.

[...]After another fan admitted that he cried “like a sissy” when Juliet fell down the well at the end of season five, Lindelof confirmed that actress Elizabeth Mitchell would appear in the final season, although he didn’t say if that meant she was still alive in the current timeline. (Mitchell is also a regular on another new ABC series, V, which debuts in midseason right along with Lost.)[...]

Panel over

Thanks Dark Ufo

Note: At the panel there were Team Darlton, Josh Holloway, Michael Emerson, Jorge Garcia, Nestor Carbonel, Dominic Monagham.

‘Lost’ producers are surprised by Best Drama nomination

“Lost” scored five Emmy nominations yesterday, including one for Outstanding Drama Series.

The show is part of a bigger crowd this year, since the rules changed to allow more contenders. That results in “Lost” going up against six other series, five of which are on cable. (“Big Love,” “Breaking Bad,” “Damages,” “Dexter,” “House” and “Made Men” are the other nominees.)

Anyway, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof told TV Guide that they’re really surprised to be nominated because of this season’s confusing, time-traveling storyline.

But they’re not shocked at all to see Michael Emerson recognized again for his creepy, but nuanced, portrayal of Ben Linus. (Maybe the third time will be the charm?)

And while they didn’t say it, I’d imagine that they ARE disappointed that a few other cast members didn’t get noticed.

No Josh Holloway, for turning Sawyer into so much more than a smart-mouthed con man?

Not even a shot for Evangeline Lilly, who broke our hearts when she left Aaron? (Evie, you had me at “bye-bye, baby.”) You couldn’t find it in your hearts for one more newbie, Emmy voters? I mean, except for Elisabeth Moss of “Mad Men” – yay! – the list of dramatic actresses has been pretty much the same for the last few years. We know how to pronounce Mariska Hargitay now.

And what the heck does Elizabeth Mitchell have to do to get some love? Deliver a baby? Have her heart broken a few times? Fall down a mine shaft? Detonate a nuclear bomb? Oh wait, Mitchell’s Juliet has done all that. Well then, you’ve stumped me.

Tune in Sept. 20 to see if “Lost” takes home the big prize. I suspect they’ll have to fight “Mad Men” to the death. Now THAT would be some interesting TV…

Here they are for your viewing pleasure, the 2009 Emmy nominations brought to you by the powers that be at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Let the debate begin. Who got snubbed? (ahem, Josh Holloway, Elizabeth Mitchell, Jenna Fisher) Who is maybe unworthy? (Um, was Amy Poehler even on Saturday Night Live last year?? What was the biggest surprise? (Flight of the Conchords? An awesome choice. Family guy? Seriously, does Seth McFarlane need another reason to have an over inflated ego?)

EXAMINER

So that meant no acting recognition for “Galactica” stars Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Edward James Olmos and James Callis, all of whom turned in staggering performances in the show’s final season. The academy’s supernatural squeamishness continued with its failure to recognize Anna Paquin in “True Blood” and Elizabeth Mitchell and Josh Holloway in “Lost.”

SignOnSanDiego

LOST receiving no Outstanding Drama Actor or Actress (Josh Holloway/Elizabeth Mitchell) nominations. Holloway’s brooding bad boy, Sawyer and Mitchell’s calm and collected Juliet, stole many a scene in season 5 as the two fell in love while hiding out with the Dharma Initiative in 1977.

EXAMINER

This article was published before the nominations were announced.

Outstanding Supporting Actor, Drama:
The glaring omission here would be Michael Emerson (“Lost”) who was once again superb as Ben, but I would also make a strong case for Jon Voight (“24”) even though his character did not survive the entire season. If I were making the picks, in addition to those two, I would choose Josh Holloway (Sawyer, “Lost”) and the man who will never get any Emmy love—even though he totally deserves a ton of it—Robert Knepper (T-Bag, “Prison Break”).

Outstanding Supporting Actress, Drama:
As President Taylor, Cherry Jones hit a huge home run for “24” and definitely deserves a nod. I would also show some love to Elizabeth Mitchell for her work as Juliet on “Lost.” Whether or not we see them, I’m sure we’ll see one or two of the “Grey’s” actresses and maybe a gal or two from “Mad Men.”

Categories: Emmys 2009

Every year I wake up on Emmy nominations morning like a little kid on Christmas, but wind up feeling like all I got were boxes upon boxes of holiday-themed socks. I know, I know, with this year’s expansion to six nominees per category (and seven in the Best Drama and Comedy Series divisions), we certainly had some delightful surprise packages under the tree. (Check out the full list of 2009 Emmy nominees here.) I know a lot of you (and certainly my colleague Ken Tucker!) are squealing with excitement over Jim Parsons’ recognition in the Best Actor in a Comedy Series race for The Big Bang Theory, and I was excited to see Jane Krakowski and Rose Byrne pick up respective Supporting Actress nods in the Comedy and Drama races for 30 Rock and Damages. And of course the incomparable Vanessa L. Williams managed a nomination for Ugly Betty (chanting does pay off).

But on the glass-half-empty tip, how come the woman who plays Wilhelmina Slater is the sole Betty acting nod? (Really, Emmy, you want to convince me Two and a Half Men‘s Jon Cryer’s performance is more award worthy than Michael Urie’s? Reeeeally?) And with seven individual shows nominated for Best Drama Series, how come there was no room (AGAIN) for Battlestar Galactica, nor a single acting honoree from the groundbreaking sci-fi series. What. The. Frak? Do Emmy voters somehow not manage to get SciFi (SyFy?) on their cable lineups? I just hope that some day, when the aliens finally land on this planet, they don’t decide it’s not worth saving based on Mary McDonnell’s lack of Emmy recognition for her role as BSG‘s President Laura Roslin. And speaking of the Lead Actress in a Drama division: Considering that Law & Order: SVU was a honey-baked mess this season, and that Brothers & Sisters matron Nora Walker trudged through the same dinner-party drama every episode, I question the inclusion of Mariska Hargitay and Sally Field over Medium‘s awesome Patricia Arquette. (And her on-screen spouse, Jake Weber, lost out to William Hurt, the surprisngly unexciting link on this season of Damages? Hard to say. Impossibly, in fact.)

And finally, while it’s nice to see Michael Emerson grab a nomination for Lost, how come other MVPs of the ensemble cast — in particular Josh Holloway and Elizabeth Mitchell — are empty-handed today? (Aside from their sizzling-hot chemistry, I mean.)Can anyone do a little time-travel back to 8:40 a.m. ET and add their names to the ballots?

Okay, PopWatchers. I need to go numb my pain with a high-calorie treat, so I turn it over to you: Which Emmy snubs are stinging you the hardest this morning? And are there any nominations that are acting as a soothing salve to heal your Emmy wounds? Holla back in the comments section below!

TV GUIDE

Thanks Stef!

The Lost cast is growing anxious to receive the first script of their final season, which goes into production late August. Before they get definitive answers, I asked them to come up with their own theories about how the mystery will get resolved.

Josh Holloway (Sawyer)
“There’s got to be a big blow-out war among everybody, and they’re all going to kill each other. There’ll be a few stragglers who have to make a choice, like the way ‘On the Beach’ ended, where the threat blows itself up and people will have to decide whether to stay or go.”

Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet)
“Like the end of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, I think something will happen where we all go back to where we were. Juliet was never brought to the island. The plane never crashes. These people have never met. But because of the odd nature of time, we keep on getting drawn back into the same situation again. So basically, the ending is just another beginning.”

Dominic Monaghan (Charlie)
“The remaining cast decides whether to walk the path of good or bad, and an epic battle reigns. Evangeline Lilly puts in the performance of the year and wins a Golden Globe.”

Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond)
“The resurrection of the dead—with someone singing [Hawaiian farewell song] ‘Aloha ’Oe.’”

Daniel Dae Kim (Jin)
“We all settle into Dharmaville, build our own homes and develop the island into a tourist destination and make millions of dollars.”
