Elizabeth Mitchell keeps ties to her Park Cities roots

Actress Elizabeth Mitchell credits her Park Cities upbringing with aiding her success. One of the stars of the television series Lost, she was in town last weekend for an event at Booker T. Washington School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

Elizabeth Mitchell, a star on the popular television show Lost, has made it big, and she credits her Park Cities upbringing for her success.

The actress landed the part of Juliet Burke in 2006 and continues to play a important role in the ensemble drama. But before she was battling island monsters and kissing TV hunk Matthew Fox, she was learning her ABCs at University Park Elementary.

“I loved growing up in Highland Park,” Mitchell said. “I loved the trees especially.”

Cool Mom Interview

Part of “Old Info And News”

May 29th, 2008

Fashion Team TV Guide Elizabeth Mitchell.jpgIn my job as one of the hosts of “The Fashion Team” on TV Guide Channel – or, as I like to call it, “deep cable” – I meet various celebrities. One of the great aspects of motherhood is the insta-connection you can make with people of all stripes. Between takes on my show, it’s best to chat with your guest, get to know them, make them comfortable, distract them so they don’t notice it’s taking 20 minutes to set up a shot. Some are more fun than others.

Elizabeth Mitchell, Juliet on Lost, was a recent fave. We all loved her. I remember her from 10 years ago as Angelina Jolie’s girlfriend in Gia (hot!). It took us about 10 seconds before we were chatting about our kids, who are only a couple weeks apart. Mitchell’s not a Hollywood mom; she lives in Hawaii for the show half the year, and Seattle is her homebase and she doesn’t have a nanny. Her husband and relatives help her out. Love a Mister Mom!

I asked her what’s one of the beauty rituals that’s gone out the window with motherhood. She said, “I’m doing it.” She said she only puts nail polish on the toes that peek out of her pumps and since she doesn’t wear those much (for motherhood or Lost), she doesn’t bother with a full pedi – it’s outfit dependent. Good tip! (No pun intended.)

She gained 70 pounds with her pregnancy. Wow, that’s a lot of girl. She is tall so she could carry it better than I – I would have been a perfect circle. She’s lovely now, so I asked her how she lost it: “Nursing and running.” We chatted about how nursing peels off the pounds. I have the knees of 60-year-old, so the running isn’t happening for me anymore.

I asked her if I could quote her on my blog. Being Ms. Perfect, she said (paraphrasing), “Oh, yeah, I think motherhood can be really hard, all that goes with it, and I like to demystify it.”

I gazed at her, “You had me at the toenails.”

Komo TV Video Interview: “Lost’s Dr. Juliet Burke shares the scoop”

‘Lost‘s’ Dr. Juliet Burke shares the scoop

HONOLULU, Hawaii — ‘Lost’ fans know her as Dr. Juliet Burke. But no one — not even the ‘Lost‘ castaways — really know her. She’s as mysterious as the island itself, but we got some answers out of Lost’s Juliet.

The moment I met Elizabeth Mitchell, I knew one thing for certain. The 37-year-old actor and mother is nothing like the character she plays on the ABC’s mega hit.

“This is your office (beach),” I remind Mitchell as we walk out on the balcony of an oceanfront suite at the luxurious Kahala Hotel and Resort in Honolulu. It’s where members of the cast are shooting the Season 4 DVD. “This is my office, can you imagine?” asked Mitchell. No, Elizabeth! I really can’t!

Sun Interview About Lost

Part of “Old Info And News”

BY FRAZIER MOORE

NEW YORK (AP) — Dr. Juliet Burke reveals herself to be a complex character on Lost.

Or, rather, she reveals very little of herself. She is a combination of strength, cunning and wistful victimhood, all displayed on a face so enigmatic she could give the Mona Lisa a run for her money.

Introduced as one of the Others at the start of last season, Juliet has remained an object of delicious mystery, despite selective details parceled out by the show. Viewers still aren’t sure where her loyalties lie — or even if they should dare to like her.

The only certainty: Elizabeth Mitchell does a bang-up job with the role, keeping viewers teased at arm’s length even while drawing them in.

“I’ve had a tremendous amount of freedom to create something strange,” Mitchell says happily.

People Interview: “Lost’s Mystery Woman Elizabeth Mitchell”

Part of “Old Info And News”

February 18, 2008

people mag elizabeth mitchell 1.jpgLost‘s Mystery Woman Elizabeth Mitchell
By MONICA RIZZO

As Her Character Keeps Fans Guessing, the Actress Nests on Another Island (This One’s Near Seattle) with Her Husband and 2-Year-Old Son

With makeup, lipstick and a good blow-dry, Elizabeth Mitchell can get through a morning of errands incognito. But in sweatpants, a ponytail and a touch of busy-mom-au-naturel grunge? That’s when the neighbors figure out that Juliet—Lost’s gun-toting, Jack-smooching, loyalty-shifting femme fatale—is among them. Says Mitchell with a laugh: “I get recognized instantly.”

Not that Mitchell, 37, minds showing a little sweat. Her Lost role—as a doctor who left the malevolent “Others” to join the castaways—is the juiciest yet for the journeywoman actress, who made her mark in movies and shows including Gia, Frequency and ER (see box). Is Juliet a double (or even triple) agent? “Part of what makes her so interesting is she is so maternal but she’s also snakelike,” says Mitchell. And in the new season—eight episodes were shot before the writers’ strike halted production in November—“you can’t really count on knowing anything.”

Columbia Tribune Interview: “Setting The Sky As The Limit”

Part of “Old Info And News”

January 31, 2008

lost photocalls 2007 elizabeth mitchell (9).jpgStephens College graduate Elizabeth Mitchell has taken one of TV’s juiciest roles on ‘Lost’ and run with it, setting the sky as the limit

Extraordinary, isn’t it, how barriers often bring out the best in us?

For Elizabeth Mitchell, it all began on the other side of the glass. There, separated from her fellow actor by an unbreakable pane, she slowly penetrated that obstruction with her kind, compassionate eyes and knowing gestures, insinuating her way into his good graces – ours, too – before sending it all someplace completely different, an environment enigmatic yet alluring, with that sly smile.

In the process, the walls and palisades that once stood in the Stephens College graduate’s path were blasted away, revealing an open landscape rife with new opportunity.

She might not have realized it from the get-go, but this was the role she’d been waiting for, working toward, the rich, complex character most in the business can only dream of inhabiting and few can bring to life.

With the fourth season of “Lost” set to premiere tonight, Mitchell’s Juliet is now an established viewer favorite after first being introduced on the hit television series in late 2006. It’s also a common belief among fans and critics alike that her being denied an Emmy nomination was highway robbery.

By: Amrie Cunningham

Who is excited for the 4th Season Premiere of Lost? That’s me, raising my hands and flailing about with glee. In my quest to complete Season 1 through 3 before January 31 (that’s a story for another day), my love for the show has been completely renewed. Also helping to get me pumped about the new Thursday night time slot? A remarkably sincere and charming woman by the name of Elizabeth Mitchell (LOST’s own Juliet) who recently spent a good chunk of her afternoon chatting with me about what to expect and why she loves her character! A big thank you to all of the readers who contributed questions!

Lost is one of my favorite shows. It’s been one of my favorite shows, so I’m excited to talk with you about it.
